SPOILER WARNING!
This article contains heavy discussion of plot details of the original Unwanteds books. You are at risk of major spoilers if you haven't read up to Island of Dragons. Be careful!

The Island of Graves was a wild island inhabited by saber-toothed gorillas. Because of their highly aggressive nature, no humans live on the island, save for Kaylee Jones, who shipwrecked there and was stuck for about a year. It is to the east of the Island of Dragons. From west to east, it is the second to last island in the Seven Islands.

Locations/Appearance

The Island of Graves is the largest of the Seven Islands.[1] The island is a wild jungle, with one large hill and a long river going through its center. About two-thirds of the island is just above sea level.[2] There is a shipwrecked boat on the beach opposite to the hill, and a valley of graves, giving the island its name.

The Graves

There are dozens of graves on the island, and a few have legible names.

  • "Marietta Plum, beloved performer and friend, d nov one, one nine one three" (died November 1st, 1913).
  • "William Strange, animal trainer, d feb two five, one nine one four" (died February 25th, 1914).
  • "Figar Osari, ringmaster, d jan one three, one nine one four" (died January 13th, 1914).
  • "Imelda Fanzini, primate trainer, d apper one, one nine one four" (died April 1st, 1914).
  • "Madame Fiona, mother to us all."

History

An animal transport boat from our world got lost in a storm[3] somewhere south of Japan[4] (The Dragon's Triangle) and shipwrecked on the island about 100 years ago. On it were just four saber-toothed gorillas (by the present day, there are about 70[5]).[6]
