SPOILER WARNING!
This article contains heavy discussion of plot details from the newest Unwanteds Quests books. You are at risk of major spoilers if you haven't read up to the newest installment in the series. Be careful!

The seven islands are the setting of the Unwanteds series. They are a chain of islands that exist outside, but close to, our world.

From east to west, the order is: the Island of Shipwrecks, the Island of Graves, the Island of Dragons, Quill (and Artimé), Warbler Island, the Island of Fire/Pirate Island, and Karkinos/the Island of Legends. (This order is reversed if you're looking at a map where north is at the top and south is at the bottom!) However, after the final battle, Karkinos is often floating just off of the coast of Artimé.

On both sides of the island chain, there are waterfalls that loop around to the other side. If you sail down the waterfall on the western end of the chain, you will go around upside-down and sail up on the eastern side. On the northern and southern sides of the chain, there seems to be endless ocean.

If you fly past the waterfall on the western side of the world, there seems to just be void, before Grimere is visible.

To get to the seven islands, you need to sail up a waterfall in the Dragon's Triangle (located in the Devil's Sea, south of Japan) in our world. You can also enter through the volcano system, where you will enter through the Island of Fire.

History

Not much is known about the history of the seven islands. The time of their creation, the first introduction of humans, etc. are all unknown.

The seven islands were separated from the land of the dragons 26 years before the first book in the series.

Trivia

  • Marcus has visited most, if not all, of the seven islands. He grew up on Warbler, lived in Quill/Artimé, and was friends with the scientists on the Island of Shipwrecks. He also says that the islands to the west of Warbler were "inhabited by somewhat primitive people," implying that he had potentially been there.[1]
    • Calling the two westernmost islands "primitive" is odd, considering one is a reverse aquarium in a constantly moving volcano, and the other is filled with legendary creatures.
  • Ishibashi guesses that most of the islands, excluding Karkinos, are probably dormant volcanoes, but he isn't sure.[2]
  • Kaylee does mention that the Bermuda Triangle has similar mythical properties to the Dragon's Triangle.[3] While unconfirmed, it could possibly be another entrance to the Seven Islands, or somewhere like it.
